Girls NSCAA regional poll upholds power
The fourth weekly NSCAA regional rankings update is here, bringing with a new set of girls regional challengers. All but one regional No. 1 power held its top spot this week, with Region V's Rocky River (Ohio) capitalizing on Carmel's rocky last few weeks to catapult to No. 1 for the first time this season. Otherwise, there were plenty of new faces in the polls this week.
For the girls, here are breakdowns of each of the six regions and some of the most interesting movements of each.

Region I
Franklin's fall from No. 2 to No. 15 thanks to its first loss of the season opened things up in Region I this week. While Exeter calmly held its top rank, there was a shakeup at the New Hampshire dynasty's back. Central Catholic assumed the No. 2 spot with its 5-0-0 mark, while Trumbull shot up from No. 9 to No. 4 to announce its candidacy as one of the regional powers.

Region II
It was a rough week for New York's top five. While No. 1 South Side and No. 2 Washingtonville gripped tight their spots at the top of New York's regional poll, No. 3 Islip wasn't as lucky. Islip dropped out this week, allowing 5-0-0 Northport to move up from No. 7. Likewise, Long Island dynasty St. Anthony's fell all the way from No. 4 to out of the poll this week, and Massapequa replaced them after sitting at No. 13 last week.

Pennington's drop out of the poll from No. 7 was one of the few shakeups from this region, which was otherwise almost untouched and upset-free. Indeed, none of the top eight in this region has so much as tied a game.

Houston was named the new national No. 1 earlier this week, so their spot atop the Region IV poll is more than safe. Otherwise, there wasn't much movement in this region this week, as Good Counsel kept its spot snugly behind Houston, while Good Counsel rivals McDonogh (No. 6) and Bishop O'Connell (No. 8) continue to inch up closer in the polls.

Region V
Two weeks ago, Carmel drew for the first time to drop from No. 1 to No. 4 in the national girls poll. Last week was a harder pill to swallow. The Indiana power lost for the first time to drop completely out of the national poll and slip from No. 1 to No. 6 in the regional ranking. Ohio's Rocky River was all too happy to pack up its 9-0-1 record and walk up to be the No. 1 for the first time this year.

Region VI
Maria Carrillo and Skyline stayed pat, but Forest Grove's fall from No. 3 opened the door for Portland's Jesuit to move back up into the top three. And while Skyline kept its spot, Seattle-area district foe Issaquah fell from No. 5 to out of the poll this week, taking a small bit of the shine off of their meeting later this year. Last year, these two met for the state title. Entirely possible that happens again in 2013.
